A note about your teacher
hi ! I’m Victoria
Im a passionate and dedicated violinist with over 18 years of experience (and counting!). I first found my love of music at 3 years of age and have been expanding my craft ever since. In my early years, I studied under Rice University professor, Sylvia Owellette, from whom i gained a deep understanding and appreciation of the fundamentals of music. My first 5 years playing the violin, I studied the Suzuki method and various other theory practices, carefully cultivating a concrete foundation for music. After my Suzuki training, i moved on to study a range of complex solo works and even craft some of my own compositions which i eventually performed at Jones Hall. Along side this, in my adolescence, i participated in regional and state competitions, placing with honors and achieving first violin/first chair in the chamber orchestra. i also joined my symphonic orchestra and performed at Carnegie Hall.
As my knowledge of violin and musical theory broadened i began to study piano more seriously, bridging together an understanding of two very close worlds. Studying under professors for a total of 5 years i gained an even deeper knowledge of music as a whole.
As an adult, i began to study with Dominika Dansewich at St. Thomas University, and for the next 3 years i continued to further my education in not only music but also music history, gaining a deeper and more worldly understanding of my instrument and its origin. During this time i also became a part of multiple Houston quartets, and would preform full shows ranging from classical, to contemporary music.
I also around this time began to find my love of teaching. Music had a huge influence on me, and i sought to help others find the same light music had brought me. i began simply by tutoring fellow classmates but soon branched out to teach children and beginners. i would continue to teach students at my former schools for the next several years, on both violin and piano. These students saw great improvement in their performance, technique, theory, and most importantly, their love of music.
I strongly believe in the power and importance music has and enjoy inspiring others to pursue and follow their dreams as those before me helped me. I strive to motivate and make my lessons fun while creating a safe space for my students to grow and cultivate technical skills, as well as their own individual style. I believe that true musicianship lies in a balance of passion and technical skill, and i work hard to create a space for my students to grow in both areas :)
